High School Students Can Start College Early at Cape Fear Community College

You may be eligible to start college early through our Huskins, Concurrent Enrollment, and Early College opportunities.

If you are a rising junior or senior, you may be eligible to enroll in Concurrent Enrollment or Huskins Classes. If you are a rising ninth grader, you may be eligible to enroll in the Early College High School at CFCC.

For more information, contact your school counselor or a CFCC representative.

Getting Started

Click the steps bellow to learn how you can start your early college opportunity.

Step 1. Apply

Gateway Application

High school juniors and seniors who are at least 16 years old: Complete this application and submit it to your high school. (Early college students must first apply directly to the school system.)

Step 2. Find a Class

Huskins Students:

2008-09 Huskins Schedule

Find a college class that is designated primarily for high school students. Huskins classes meet at CFCC and in some local high schools. All classes that meet at CFCC run on the CFCC Academic Calendar.

Concurrent Enrollment Students:

CFCC Schedule of Classes

Find a college class offered in our regular schedule. These classes meet at CFCC and run on the CFCC Academic Calendar.

Step 3. Register

Fill out a Gateway Registration Card. Students may pick up this card at your high school counseling office or at the CFCC Counseling Office on either campus.

Huskins Students:

Submit a Gateway Registration Card to your school counselor. (Your counselor will submit your card to CFCC.) Your registration will be finalized when you attend class. (A CFCC counselor will visit all Huskins classes during the first two class meetings to confirm all registrations.)

Remember: Huskins classes that meet at CFCC begin on August 15th! Be prepared to pay your student and/or malpractice insurance fees (for cosmetology students) on this day!

See the Huskins Textbooks for a list of required textbooks and/or supplies for your class. (Your instructors may require supplies and materials that are not found on this list.)

Concurrent Enrollment Students:

Have your school principal or designated Gateway counselor approve your Gateway Registration Card.

Take this approved registration card to CFCC on Late Registration Day. (CFCC cannot enroll high school students in college classes without an approved registration card.)
